Friday, August 20, 2004 VILLACH PT IIAlpen Highland Games...(!)Touring always provides an insite to how other cultures foster their heritage and sense of history. There is always the chance that you will find an obscure cultural anomally that will make you double take. Then, we met Thomas Rettl. Thomas, has sparked something of a small academic war between Austria and Scotland. He claims (famously) that the tartan, and indeed the kilt were developed in Austria, before they arrived in Scotland, and are a traditional dress of the Corinthian people. To celebrate this strange twist in historical analysis, Thomas also organizes the annual Alpen Highland Games. an event held in the small town of Filkenstein, in an amazing 5 level castle overlooking the whole greater Villach region. Not suprisingly, He asked us to play these games, and naturaly, we obliged. So this evening, we don traditional (Austrian) kilts and garish pirate shirts and rock the Gala event in the castle. Of course we will collect footage of this weird and wonderul event, and post it when I find a moment. More soon, Trunk McEight. posted by Trent | 4:46 AM Wednesday, August 11, 2004 NUECHÂTELWell folks, Bern was a fantastic success! It was their first ever busking festival, organised by Lisette Wyss and her sister. We played 9 high powered shows, and really showed some people how to rock out Aussie style! (pics soon!) we are now in Nuechâtel, 40kms South of Bern, in the French Quater of Switzerland. we are planning on doing more resting than playing here, and preparing for Spain. More soon, Trunk McEight. posted by Trent | 6:03 AM |
